This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with
complex objects.
thats probably because your convert setting is set to count, and the poly count is too low.
in the convert option box, try:
convert type to "general"
and tesselation method "Per span # of iso" and number to 1
for both U and V and hit apply.
