How do you make somthing glow?

I need to know how to make somthing glow like a light saber or somthing.user added image

Create a new material eg lambert, go to the attributes and under special effects you will have glow intensity, just turn it up and all done user added image

and to make the glow really show up you need correct lighting in the scene, sometimes you can put a light right inside the object that has the glow and use some decay to have the object glow without lighting everything else in the scene
