OK i might have an idea whats going on:

My graphics card has burnt out and am i right in thinking that its the card that will handle the alpha channel for each pixal while rendering.
Anyone know if i'm right?
Shame its a bloody laptop or i'd just change the card user added image

I dont know what the problem is, but do you have the same problem with Tiffs.. if not you could use that instead.

There's nothing normal about normals. In FACT i think the are abnormal.

If you want transparency in the shader use the transparency channel in the shader user added image Don't put the transparency into the colour map, leave that area as black and then use a different image (greyscale) for the transparency on the shader.
