P4 @2.8Ghz vs BARTON 2600+

I want to switch from xp 2600+ to a intel p4 @2.8ghz (s478).
Does this switch to this platform worth it's effort ? (regarding Maya performance)
With my system i'm staying almost 4h to render a cloud animation with mental ray and caustics.

thank you

buy an Athlon64 for a cheaper price than the P4 and have better performance, clock for clock it beats the shit out of Intel CPUs.
