help with text animation

Ive recently been learning maya... and have started on a personal project...

ive modeled everything i need and its all looking cool. the only problem is that some of the animation i need to do is beyond my knowledge...

What i need to do is animate is text so it looks like it is being drawn in letter by letter, (quite a common animation technique used in flash ....)

can anyone give me any idea on how to achieve this in maya..

cheers
Matt

Unless you need to do some really wild translation's or scalling with it, why not do it in a difrent app and composit it.. Could be much eazyer. But if you really want to in maya, Check out the paintFX. I belive there is still a tutorial in the Doc's about growing grass or soemthing along a curve. You can change the grass to like a neon looking tube.. and the curves would be a eazy way to get letters.
