FG and MR problems

Hey guys, sorry to double post this, but I haven't gotten any responses after a couple days in the member lounge and I can't delete the original post. I've just received my new Dell M70 (very exciting, I highly recommend it), and I'm having great difficulty getting Maya running properly. I'm using 6.5 Unlimited, and when I go through the installation everything installs just fine. However, when I run Maya and try to use the mental ray renderer, several settings no longer show up. Of particular interest to me is the absence of all but a check box entitled "Final Gather" under the Final Gather settings in the Render Globals. The same thing occurs under Caustics and GI: no settings, just a check box to turn it on. The strangest issue I'm having, though, is that everything under the Raytracing tab for shaders is missing. I had thought perhaps the problem was with the loading of the MR plugin, but I've already loaded and reloaded it with know success. Additionally, since there are basic Maya settings missing, I'm assuming it's no problem with plugin management. Some specs on the system (since I'm not having any trouble with the exact same install disc on my desktop):

Pentium M Processor 760 (2.00GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533FSB)
1.5GB 533MHz, DDR2 SDRAM
100GB Harddrive (7200rpm)
15.4" WUXGA (1920x1200) Screen
nVidia QuadroFX go1400 256MB GPU

Has anyone had any experience with mental ray running on PM processors? Could this even be the problem? My feeling is that there is another issue because this laptop has several certifications that qualify it for use with Maya and mental ray. Any help in this matter would be much appreciated; thanks in advance.
