This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.
Unfortunately I haven't really done much texturing or rendering myself, so I am not much help, but I would definitely start with mtmkinley's free texturing basics tutorial on this site and then I would read as much as I can on the UV texture editor as this is what will help you texture your model.
