Non Linear Animation: demystified!!

Could anyone please demystify the NLA in Maya 7? The NLA in MAYA 7 is so much twisted it is not as straight as in other programmes.

First problem>>, I have made a character walk and when I convert it into a clip and try to loop the clip the character jumps back to the position and don’t continue walk from the relative position?

I made two clips 1. Walk Clip and 2. Standing Up Clip. Now when I use these in Trax editor, it gives me strange results. The character remains in its position ( initial position of the standing clip but its legs are moving in accordance to the walking clip ( I have also tried muting the standing clip).

Please throw some light of knowledge (tutorials, guidance, experiences, projects etc) on this darker side of Non Linear Animation in Maya 7 and please demystify its mystery.

cheers

If you animate the character walking forward and you include the actual forward movement as it takes steps, then, of course it will snap back to its start position when it loops. I've only used NLA a few times but I'm pretty sure that the idea for doing a walk cycle that loops is to have the character walk in place using NLA then animate the forward movement seperate.
