at the same time, maya has a lot of tutorials in the help files that should get you going, and if you can't seem to get anywhere from there, you can always try www.highend3d.com, www.3dtotal.com, and www.learningmaya.com for some tutorials others have written to show you not only basics but also some good tips and tricks that'll help you get where you want to be a little faster...

im in similar situation but ive got a 1 week deadline now to hand in a wlaking model for my class!!

ive tryed all the low poly character one

Modeling it was nto to hard learn a lot about verticises and such
Textureing and UVS ive put to one side
A am now currently getting frustratied with painting wgts to rigging!!!

I was wondering on make my character simpiler then the one given in the turotials

Just legs for instance

is there much differance between animating nurbs and polygons?
