Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Tap dancin' robot

I just finished rendering a scene from my upcoming demo reel. It is a 45 second long sequence of some sort of hypothetical WWI era robot I designed a while back doing a "buck and wing". I synched the animation to a .wav file of an old cylinder recording, and I think it came out OK!

The bad news is that I would have LIKED to have shared the AVI, but even with "Virtualdub" and compression, I was only able to shrink it to 350 MB (down from nearly a gigabyte in size). Until I figure out how to compress the whole thing down to a reasonable 50-60 MB, all I can do is share a few stills.

I hope you like them!

Regards!

if you wanted to render it out just for us to be able to see, you could try rendering out to a targa sequence at 320X240, then using after effects render it out using divx or xvid *shrug*

I might try that, NeoStrider. Rendering doesn't take all that long on my machine (the 640X480 tga took a few hours), and I did in fact figure out some more of the inner workings of After Effects.

In fact I'm working on all that as I type.

I should be able to put up a 320X240 version up in a day or so, with the basic soundtrack.

I will keep you all posted! Thanks for the comments!
