Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold

center point | scale selection

This is a little annoying thing I have to continually do, and there is probably a reason why they made Maya behave this way, but I'm wondering if there is a way to alter a preference or something:

When you select a set faces, vertices, etc.., and then choose to move or rotate, the center point is conveniently placed in the middle of your selection. Why oh why, doesn't scale behave this way? Instead scale defaults to the center point of the object, whereupon you then need to manually change the position of the scale pivot point to scale the center of the selection and then do your scaling.

Any ideas on how to change this so it behaves like move or rotate?

Thanks!

Modify - Transformation Tools - Scale Tool - uncheck "Component Use Object Pivot"

everything starts and ends in the right place at the right time.
