Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Why won't sky appear? beginner question

I'm a relative beginner in Maya and am trying to use the sky environment shader. If I open the Hypershade panel, and then click on the shader and it appears in the work area.

If I render at this stage, there is no sky. What step(s) have I missed.

Grateful for any assistance user added image

well in order to use a shader, you've got to have something that's considered 'renderable' to put it on. if you want a sky, use a plane or a really really large sphere (most people like to cut them in half and just use the top) and apply your shader to that.

Accept no substitutions.

Thanks, I thought that the object which appeared was the sphere but it was only some sort of shader attribute. Working now user added image
