Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

post the render just so i can be sure, but it sounds like a pixel aspect ratio problem...

in your render settings make sure (under image size) make sure your pixel aspect ratio is set to 1. anything else will make your render look distorted in render view.

It seems that the amount of pixels was wrong, strangely enough I cant manage to change it in the render options. :S

also under image size you'll see a 'maintain ratio' button, change it from pixel aspect to device aspect, and then try changing the pixel aspect ratio value.
