issues with toolbox and right clicking objects

Hey guys.. i hope someone can help me out here. I can't seem to select any of the manipulator tools on the right. I can select the viewport layout buttons right below and all of the other shelf stuff. I also cant right click on the objects to select vertices, faces, etc. i tried to reinstall but still didn't fix the problem. if anyone knows of a solution PLEASE let me know. Hard to do school work with this problem.

posibly a silly answer but ...

are you in "Object mode" instead of "Component mode"user added image

haha... my solution was the same as the other guys.. just try later.. i luv maya but damn it is moody.. thanx for your help guys.
