Hey everyone this is my first... well second thing I've made in maya, and my first post on this forum. The first was the franky tutorial which I ended up having to scrap because it came out so badly. I want to keep working on this right now but it's 4am and I need to get some sleep, I don't know how I've sat here after going out for new years eve.
I still need to fool around a bit more with the lighting I think but this will be good for a first post on here.
I like the kooky style thing, what you have so far is pretty good, but i'm not sure about that roof. I don't know what to suggest really. Maybe a bit pointier, a bit more jagged or something, I can't put my finger on it.
Also, it needs some window frames and some spooky trees outside! Keep working on it, i look forward to the updates.
hey guys thanks for the comments. today I will hopefully be back with the detailed version of the house. Then I have to try the texturing which I've also never done before, but I most likely wont be getting that far today. Makes me feel good I've done this well on a tutorial thats supposed to be for "intermediate" users.
Petrol - Yes the top of the roof needs a little bit of work but I kind of like how the rest of it looks
Today I finished the fence around the house, messed around with the hill added shutters, put in the windows and the cross frame for the windows, boarded up the windows and door, put a little panneling on the house for a little texture, made the fence for the graveyard, and messed around with the lights a little more, surprisingly it took me all day to do those things. I might work a little more on it tonight but not much more.
looks great
Can't wait to see it textured.
Are you planning to make grass on the hill? That would be
great!
Or you could make interior, if it is not to much work
I am going to definately texture it soon. I'm not sure if the hill will be all grass, I'm kind of thinking patchy grass and dirt to kind of fit the whole scene, or maybe long grass? I don't know never even messed around with texturing at all, since the Franky one didn't have texturing. It's going to be interesting once I attempt texturing.
Yesterday I completed the haunted house model with the background and the trees, I even made it so the key light is coming from the moon. I probably should mess around with the lighting some more to, since that is also new to me (along with just maya and 3d modeling in general). I want to get my skills up because I want to go to school for this kind of thing.
Heres what I have at the moment, ready to texture, but will probably still mess around with a few things.
Camera image set up like the finished product in the tutorial:
Just another angle to check it out:

well job on the trees.. gives it the haunted house feel, though one of trees looks abit wierd. the first and last picture on the right side, the tree colour looks stretched or something if you get what i mean
Wow! Looks damn good for a second work! It still needs a bit of modelling work (can you post a wireframe?), as well as color tweaking (I agree with the bit of stretched color in that tree, for instance), but it's looking great thus far. I can't wait to see it textured!
Moonrender: The same way that the tutorial shows to do the blocked off doorway and windows. Polygon square and then just stretched and thin it out and put it up against the wall.
I have been jumping around learning new things here and there, and soon enough I will jump back on this project and finish it off with the texturing to finally have this completed.
