This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i
I'm installing Vista once i've finished up a bit of work tomorrow. I've heard maya runs fine on Vista and friends using vista are saying its better than expected.
I'm quite looking forward to it TBH
EDIT: Hold your horses and read below:

I am not touching vista for at least a year.

Check this out.
Sorry about the link it works in both of the browsers Im using.
The point of the link was to take you to a reputable site that ran numerous benchmarks comparing xp and vista.
In Applications, from Max and Maya there was like an 89% reduction in performance when running the same thing in Vista.
Even gamespot.com ran benches and all the games run better in xp. Vista is simply too hungry for all the resources that microsoft through in with the code.
The stats i've seen are saying 20%, 89% loss in performance seems astronomical.
EDIT: Ah sorry misunderstood the last post. 89% on opengl apps. I thought they implemented it fully on official release. Looks like we'll be using maya in xp. I'll still be using vista for day to day work tho. The search functions, virtual folders etc are too handy to me to pass up on.

Looks like there could be a relatively painless fix.
" Windows Vista ICD's - this is a new path for 3rd party ICD's introduced for Windows Vista that will work in a way that is compatible with desktop composition. Essentially allowing direct access to the GPU for hardware accellaration, but then having the final surface that appears to be the front buffer to the application actually be a shared surface that gets composed by the DWM"
instead of:
"MSOGL - this is an implementation of OpenGL 1.4 that uses Direct3D under the covers to hardware accellerate the application."
EDIT: The nvidea geforce and quadro drivers includes an OpenGL driver for compatibility testing. Haven't checked ATI

Vista is a no go, I may even drop to Windows 200 Pro Soon.

Certainly not for now - I've evaluated the Business edition for work and I did find it heavy going, especially with the necessity to change bits that didn't need changing. The start menu is pretty useless now requiring more clicks than ever to get to what you want unless you push it back into Classic Mode...Control Panel items have once mroe inexplicably been rejiggered and the big one is - lack of native Open GL support. I don't know what this means for you Maya users, but Lightwave suffers from chronic slowdown as Vista translates the OpenGL calls to DirectX. I am seriously thinking that Windows XP will be my last Microsoft OS that I'll run on my computer.
I installed the trial of Vista for a day or two, then I ended up dumping it. There's a bunch of nice things about it, such as mac-like interface () and the gadgets (also mac like ()), but they do eat your speed and they're not useful either.
