Why have you modled the dog all in tri's?

For the textuing just look at some photo reference. Then unwrap and apply.

cool - your dog looks very good - though what's that bulge on his chest? it looks a little odd.

the spider model is nice, but all the legs should connect to the cephalothorax - the back two should not be connected to the abdomen like that.
