lens shader (latlong) :(

Hello all
I have a problem that is really frustrating me!
I have textured my two planes that i want a render of. I have made a scene for them and am trying to use the lat long lens found at this website
https://www.vi-motion.de/latlong_Tutorial/
to render off a hdr image to get some more realistic reflections - using my mac. The problem is once i have installed the latlong lens shader and attached it to the camera, when i go to batch render with mental ray - it will not render. So i opened script editor to see what's happening. It showed

Image name is now latlong
// Result: saving temporary file /Users/markellis/Documents/maya/projects/odd bits/scenes/latlong__469.mb //
// Result: Rendering with mental ray... //
// Result: Rendering Completed. See Console for more information. //

Any ideas, anyone. Man I have been looking everywhere to what's the problem, even though i am a mental ray beginner, but can not find anything on how to fix it.
Any help would be much! appreciated.
Thanks a heap.

Check to see if you have Final Gather turned on. HDRI lighting depends on it. Also make shure you have a HDRI image loaded in your IBL ( Image Based Lighting ) attributes for your IBL to work.

Thanks for the reply, nope i have both of those and its not doing anything. Here some more details if it would help. I have added the latlong_lens.mi to the '/Mayax.x/mentalray/include directory' and the latlong_lens.dll to the '/Mayax.x/mentalray/lib directory'
Then i have copied the render_latlong_lens.xpm and latlong_lens.fti to the '/Mayax.x/icons directory'
Have then added these lines to my maya.rayrc file.

link "{MAYABASE}/lib/latlong_lens.{DSO}"

mi "{MAYABASE}/include/latlong_lens.mi"

Then loaded the latlong_lens.mi in maya under the mental ray shader manager.

Thank you heaps for reading my post, hopefully you can work out what's happening.
Would you have any good tutorials for mental ray beginners by the way.
Cheers

It's still not installed correctly in my opinion. You should have had some stuff to put in a maya folder thats located in your C/:windows Documents and settings folder. The same thing happpened to me years ago when I tried to install a mental ray shader. I was told to put some stuff in that maya folder. Did the lense shader come with install instructions?

what about not batch rendering but doing a single render - same problem?

everything starts and ends in the right place at the right time.

Thanks for the posts, yeah i know its not installed correctly since when i try to use mental ray it wont work.
Nope wont work rendering it in maya, only batch render.
Yep the following is the installation instructions, there also is a source folder included in the lat long folder called source. In it are three folders all coded. But it doesn't say anything about what there for.

latlong_lens for Mental Ray v1.0 by Ralf Habel
ralf.habel@vi-motion.de

"Installation:

Copy latlong_lens.mi to the /Mayax.x/mentalray/include directory.

Copy latlong_lens.dll to the /Mayax.x/mentalray/lib directory.
(Or latlong_lens.so for Linux.)

Copy render_latlong_lens.xpm and latlong_lens.fti to the /Mayax.x/icons directory.

Add to your maya.rayrc file the lines

link "{MAYABASE}/lib/latlong_lens.{DSO}"

mi "{MAYABASE}/include/latlong_lens.mi"

after similar declarations.

The shader will show up in the Mental Ray Lenses tab.

For standalone use:

The lens shader has one parameter which mirrors the output
on a centered vertical line:

lens "latlong_lens" ("m_vmirror" [0,1])

Be sure to turn off scanline rendering.

A tutorial on how to use the shader can be found at:

https://www.vi-motion.de/latlong_Tutorial/
"
Cheers, Mark
