Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Black spots on my model

Hi all,

I've noticed this before. I have carried out an action on my model (extracted the arm in this case) and straight after my man develops black spots.

All the normals point in the correct way. I've tried hardening the normals then softening them. I've tried assigning a new material.

The geometry is ok - is this a known bug or what? Can I fix it?

thanks,

gubar

Nah, no painting going on. They are opaque black patches.

I'm improving it just now - seems like when I extruded, some of my vertex normals went weird (though the face ones remained fine - strange).

cheers,

gubar.

Try setting your normals to face, or smoothing them
