Laggy PC

Hey all,

For some strange reason my PC has started lagging up a lot.

I've never had a problem before with it, don't have the speediest of machines, but it is certainly good enough for Maya etc as I have been using it for months without problems (Pentium 4, 3.06Ghz processor, 1Gb ram, Radeon x1600 pro graphics card).

Its almost as if my PC is just been lazy as it is not using anywhere near as much memory as it should be, and as it usually does. As you can imagine this is pretty annoying, especially for dynamic simulation in particular, which is what we are starting to get into at uni.

I have tried defragging, cleaning up discs, etc, and don't want to have to system restore unless I really have to. Any help would be much appreciated.

Chris

Your missing something. Have you tried scanning for viruses
There are a few out there that directly affect a computer's performance.
I suggest you update you antivirus software and scan your computer.

First off try opening the task manager and see what process/app is using all the Cpu or Ram, with this info we might have a better idea as to what is causing it .

Thats what the confusing thing is, none of the processes are using a large chunk of CPU or Ram, infact the CPU usage never seems to top 20% and the commit charge only ever reaches at most a 1/4 of the total amount.

Any ideas? This is v strange

Only a little, but still not enough to slow the PC down

Very wierd...

I have my own problem if anyone can help solve it and if you dont mind me posting it in here.

Usually my computer took around 8ish seconds to it load up windows, though it takes ages now... around 30+ seconds maybe even double sometimes. Does anyone know how to fix this?
