Help. As a newbie i need as much help as i can get. firstly, I am running maya 2008 on an xp pro 3.2 duo core with 3 gig ram + gforce 6800 256mb but sitting in the shed doing nothing I have a server board (Tyan Tiger) with 2 x 2.4 gig xeon processors & 4 gig ram. Could this be put to any use with rendering or anything else? What would I need to do to use it or is it just a dinosaur?
Yes. A render farm. Sounds like a plan. does anyone have any info on how ths is configured? Would there be much of an improvement over a single system?
Like Gster123 said, i would most likely set up a mini Render farm. Do all your modeling on your high octane machine, set up your render scene, and simply transfer the file over the network. Then start the render on that machine. Where it can spend all day rendering your scenes with out holding up your main computer.
"Your weapons are no match for ours! People of Mars, surrender!"
"Um, this isn't Mars. This is Earth."
"Earth? Earth-with-nuclear-weapons Earth?"
"Yes."
[long pause] "Friend!!"
ok.. now I'm totally confused... Looks like Smedge 6.2.0.6 would be the manager to go with... Dr Queue looks good but complicated, Farm Manager is free so I might kick off with that and seee how we go...
