Adding Shadows?

I've always been really fortunate on this board to get really detailed answers to my queries so I thought I'd ask just one more question user added image

I’ve modelled a car, but I want to add the shadow of it on the ground - What is the simplest way to do this?

I tried googling it, but I couldn't really find anything....

I really hope someone can help me out here...

Thanks in advance guys!!!!!

First of all, make shure you have a ground plane for the shadow to cast onto, then....

Create a light. Turn shadows on. Aim it at your object. Adjust light position to your liking. Render and see the results.user added image

Can I just ask one more question...

I've used an area light pointing on my scene (a car, on the ground with a few buildings etc) and the light is good, but I just want to make the shadows more darker (they are a little to light)

When I make the area light bigger it darkens my shadows, but it also brightens up my scene too much!

- In other words, How can I darken the shadows without altering the light?

Thanks again, I'll make this my last query I promise user added image

Try using the spotlight or directional light instead. Also, are you using depth map shadows or are you ray tracing your shadows?

BTW, I modeled a sample scene using a directional light source using ray traced shadows. This is just to give you an idea of what they will look like. Ambient light is from HDRI for more realism.

Wow, your scene looks good!

I'm using Depth map shadows! The light is above my scene pointing at an angle!!!

Just wish the shadows looked alittle darker though!

I'll have a play around with them other lights!

thanks again!

I used depth map shadows at first. The problem with it for me was that I just couldn't get the realism that ray traced shadows offered. But anyway; experiment, and see what works best for you. user added image
