also, there was a shadow box at the top right of my screen that i could navigate the views with, what is it called and how do i restore it? it keeps hiding on me. :headbang:

As to your second question, it's called the ViewCube, and while I personally prefer the foursquare box because it gives orthographic views, you can turn the ViewCube on by going to
Window>Settings/Preferences>Preferences>Interfaces> Viewcube.

Your avatar can be changed in User Control Panel>Options


When in doubt, delete history and freeze transformations.
