Hello everybody

Can anybody suggest me how to open files made on maya 2008 in maya 8.5

I am very new to maya and right now learning from the lessons provided by autodesk.

if i remember right there were questions about this (or was it going the other way around... i dont know)
you can open files and click some option to 'ignore version' or edit the .ma save file so it's the version you're using

that's a "Ch" pronounced as a "K"

Computer skills I should have:
Objective C, C#, Java, MEL. Python, C++, XML, JavaScript, XSLT, HTML, SQL, CSS, FXScript, Clips, SOAR, ActionScript, OpenGL, DirectX
Maya, XSI, Photoshop, AfterEffects, Motion, Illustrator, Flash, Swift3D

I think another way of opening file in old versions in maya is to export your model like .obj i think this might work but i didn't try it.

the problem with doing this is that obj files only have vertecies, edges, faces, and UVs, they don't contain any other information

so anything that you had like materials, lights, rigs, etc would not appear in the obj
