Ah ha! It is starting to make sense. I needed to change the default color of the map image layer to black in order to continue the alpha channel around the image area. The specular map will help too. Thanks a lot guys.

I'm not sure, but maybe it is already transparent, the problem is that it is reflecting light, so it will look as if it is not transparent at all. I'm not sure if it will solve the problem. Probably could also be done adding a map to the reflectivity attribute.
