Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Unknown Addition to Piece when Extrude

Hi all,
I'm trying my hand at doing my own modeling after all this time.
I'm trying to make a Tail Fin of a plane. I have a recess to put the Tail in but when I go to extrude the faces, I keep getting this plane appear which I can't select and only is on one side.
It also appeared when I extruded faces under it for engine piece.

Any ideas?

Scott

Forget it! I solved it myself. The whole thing was being drawn upside down.
Time to get new glasses I think.. lol

One thing you should pay attention to is keeping all your faces as quads. Also make sure you avoid extruding faces twice and other stuff like that.

The geometry in the pic is extremely messy... If you want to avoid further problems of this kind make sure you keep a clean mesh.

When in doubt, delete history and freeze transformations.

BennyK,
Thanks for the info but can you expand on it please.
I'm trying to learn and any information is greatly appreciated.
I understand that is not what you would do but I'm still learning and helpful information would help me in the long run.

Thanks
