the problems you are having could have a lot to do with other stuff instead of the software:
Framerate
ntsc/PAL
16:9/4:3 (aspect ratios)
HD is pretty new production wise I know a lot of "big" or best said professional companes have it down, but we are struggling
I would use media encoder to make a quicktime with a PAL/NTSC preset and then make a dvd out of it using Encore
