Split Polygon Tool

Hi Dear Friends!

I am new to among you! I have a problem. I am working on polygon modeling in Maya 2010. I am not using Split Polygon tool. I trying many variation for use it. But I can't

I want to split in red circle on this picture.

no need split polygon tool. just move the vertex in order to that red circle .
otherwise use Boolean tool, it maybe helps.

Anyway the question is not clear.

Go to Edit Mesh>Split Polygon Tool. Make sure you press "reset tool" in case you have changed settings. Then click on vertex 1.....then click on vertex 2...tap 'enter' key. If it is success then a new line will be drawn between the points...as per my picture.
