Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Trouble in hypershade, Maya2012

So I'm trying to set up a render and when I try to link up a surface shader to an amb_occlusion map the amb_occlusion has a little red bar over it's name. I'm thinking that means something is wrong. I have evidence to this because when I try to render nothing comes out, just blackness.

Can someone help me with this please?

mental ray plugin must be loaded AND set as the current render engine

...does it happen with mia_material?

(also, you are not using mental ray stand alone are you?)

You mean in the render globals?

yep I meant render globals. mental ray must be selected as the render engine.

Mental ray node selected but mental ray not set as the render engine == red title bar

mental ray node and mental ray selected as the render engine == normal title bar

The only way I know for wire frame to show up during rending is if you have turned on contour render and you have to switch that on in like 3 different places so how you could accidentally do it is beyond me.

Can we see a screen shot of the problem and your global render settings please.
