Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Cheers Dango, Yeah I try to avoid video games I have a very addictive personality and so I only play 2 or 3 games a year and have always avoided online stuff. I mainly skate to try and keep myself in shape plus is good fun and I enjoy having something which I can empty my mind with for a couple of hours.

Any how here are the shoes so far, textures are still very rough and need a lot of work + have not even added any to a couple of areas. If I get some free time over the weekend I will put some hours into these and the board.

Sounds good Jay and look forward to seeing you push it that little bit further, for me I could look at the black and white one all day and question if it was a photo or not. Don't get me wrong here as the color version is bloody good but is just not quite there to that level where it leaves you fooled. Is so damn hard to achieve though and you are so close to that bar and would be great to see you nail it. The modeling is perfect though and you did an amazing job with it.

Here are some more renders of the shoe as I finished getting all of the textures roughed in. Some parts are pretty much fine now and will only need some minor tweaks whereas other areas still need a fair bit of work. I am also going to need to work out how to get a good shader set up, as this is where I am still failing in most of my renders. I am really weak when it comes to knowing how to create believable shaders, especially with cloth and fabrics.

Think I am gonna use this thread to show other bits of stuff I am making for fun. Started on my tennis racket, is still early days so the textures and shaders are very rough + try to ignore the tennis ball and grass. I will start on the organic soon but am just getting as much practice as possible at the moment with texture and shaders. These are by far my weakest area and I hope to improve greatly before I attempt it.

Some more progress, I am thinking along the lines of creating a couple of players set in the near future with augmentations / prosthetics. I will probably need to re think the racket design somewhat but I think the general shape and look of the equipment will not change so much and may just try to do something more interesting with the strings. While working on this I just felt it might be more interesting to take a regular setting and give it a more futuristic feel. The leg is based off a concept design by Colin Matsco. Not sure if or when I will complete this but am just trying to do other stuff in my free time for fun and will see how it goes.

I like the leg design for the most part, but I'm not sure about the ankle and the foot. How would the ankle bend? And there's no articulations in the foot, which I would expect for a futuristic prosthesis.

Yeah is just a rough design at the mo, I will need to think about the functionality for the design more but it will resemble this.
