This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

smoothing doesn't work right

Looks like you have extrude a few edges and not moved it, just removed the edges with delete edge/vertex tool................dave

Edit:easyer would be to merge those verts

You ve some extra geometry. Try to use the cleanup under mesh menu or try to merge(under edit mesh) the verts. Some vers re doubled i think.

select mesh>cleanup cleanup matching poygons radio button in the remove geometry section check all four boxes - lamina faces, nonmanifold geo, edges with zero length, faces with zero area.

The last option is for uv's so don't worry about it.

When you press cleanup all the doubled verts should be cleaned up.

As yet another option you could select all the verts and then do edit mesh>merge verts and all the doubled verts should merge and that will also fix the problem/ make sure you have a very low threshold so you do not collapse needed edges

big thanks to all of you! this is very helpful, i guess any of your suggestions will work...unfortunatelly my system somehow crashed and i have to fix that first.
