This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

zooming in, verticies disappear

Get into the camera's attributes and decrease the near clip plane.

First go to Display on the top and drop down to UI Elements and select Show all UI Elements.

Then simply click on the camera in the viewport top left. Now on the left in the attribute editor you will see about the fourth option down near clip plane

There ya have it.

that or in the viewplane just goto View>Select Camera and if your attribute editor isnt already open just do ctrl+a
