Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Object didn't show up in mirrors

Hi, I have a curious problem. I have a small scene within Maya 2011. There are two objects with reflectivity turned on and there are two solid objects.

When I render the scene with mentalray (raytrace option) then the result shows, that only one of the two objects are shown in the mirrors (a simple sphere) while the other object (a plant from a Maya library) did not show up in any of the mirror objects... (see picture)

So, whats wrong? (all objects are visible and on the same layer)...

Any idea?

open attribute editor for the objects not appearing in reflections and look at the render stats for those objects and make sure "visible in reflections" is checked.

Yeah definitely check that. I don't know why Maya does that but imported objects seem to have those attributes unchecked by default. Also, you may want to bump up the reflection traces and max trace depth in the render settings (under the quality tab), because as you can see the mirror surfaces aren't showing each others reflections.

It works

Thanks a lot... yes it was a group of many objects and I had to check this for all!

But finally it works...
