Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Problem with OBJ importing

Hi there,

I have been unwrapping some uvs in headus uv layout and then importing them back into maya, but I've noticed that the shading and edges have become more defined and unpleasing.

The picture below will give you an idea of what has happened to it.

#1 is what the model looked like when I was finished with it in maya

#2 is what it looked like after I was done with it in headus uv layout and imported the OBJ

If anyone could tell me how to make it like the first one, that would be a huge help!

Headus has hardened the surface normals. Softening them with an angle of about 60 degrees should fix it.

That did the trick.

Thank you, sir!
