Problem when rendering particle flow along motion path

Hey all, I was hoping someone could help me figure this problem out. I am making particles follow along a nurbs curve using a motion path. Everything looks fine and dandy in the viewport render, but when I go to batch render, it comes out looking stepped..??? tried fidgeting many settings and nothing. Help please! Here are some pics of the viewport render and the batch render.

One image has a glow effect so I don't think it's using the hardware renderer, which may be the problem. Check what renderer you're batching out with.
