Rigging with extra objects floating about...

Hello!
I am but a noob student just learning to rig. Right now I am trying to rig a llama. I have added the skeleton, and just finished painting the weights so his lower jaw can open/close. He also has an upper set and a lower set of teeth and gums that are separate objects. My teacher had told me to parent the top gums to the head joint and the bottom gums to the jaw joint. This moves the teeth/gums with the jaw but unfortunately it’s distorted, and both sets of gums tend to move farther than they should, or at all. Any tips on what I should do? Is this a constraining or a grouping problem? Any suggestions appreciated since I have been stuck on this for a while... Thanks!

Have you deleted the history on the objects before parenting them?

Imagination is more important than knowledge.
