Easiest way to make a curly string

Hi,

I'm currently working on Woody from toy story, I'm in the process of making his hat at the moment and need to make the curly string that wraps around it, I don't want to spend to long doing it a tedious way, so thought I'd put it up here to see if I could get any advice, any suggestions would be very helpful and much appreciated!

Thanks

There's a poly helix primitive. Play with the settings for that and then use a bend deformer to wrap it around the hat.
