set key problem

Hello,
I've got a problem in one of my first animations I'm making in maya, it's a school project, it has to be finished next week..
so, I've created a couple of models, one of them is a little car.
I've created a scene, in which I'll do the animation of all the models.
only the car will be moving around.
so, when I make a reference of the car, the car appears in the scene, all good,
it appears at coordinates (0,0,0), its to big, it has to be rotated en moved a bit , all no problem.
but
after I've done this, it's in the right position to start moving, but, when I push S, to do a set key,
the car resets, back to its original position, size etc. so I can't get it moving.
strange, because I've already used these keys, with no problems what so ever..
I hope someone can help me, because I really have to get this right..
thanks already!

Try selecting the channels and RMB > Key selected instead of hitting s. See if that makes a difference.
