Extruding Tri's

Hey guys, i'm really stuck with what to do to fix this issue.
I'm trying to extrude tri's without losing the back faces in Maya.
I'v attached some pictures of whats happening, if anyone could help i would really appreciate it.

Do you have "Keep faces together" checked?
