Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Gizmo Precision

Hi community,

I'm searching for long time if there is a possibility to change the sensitivity/precision of the gizmo. Is there a settings like the one 'click box' which is not affecting the component but the gizmo? It is really difficult sometimes to grab the arrow of the gizmo (or the respective line).

You mean it is is just tricky to select? Try clicking on the arrowhead, it's a bit of a bigger target.

Thank you for your hint, unfortunately it does not help much! On a 27" monitor the arrow head is also not much bigger. The 3ds Max solution with the constraints, and, when the constraint is set, you can only grab an move the object in that direction you selected, is much better.

Few more things to try:
Try hitting + to make the manipulator bigger, although that just lengthens it I think
Try holding the ` key to enter tweak mode (or something like that) where clicking and dragging will move the object regardless of the manipulator being selected.
Finally, if it's a question of getting the right axis, you can click on the correct axis (take a few attempts if necessary), then once the axis is highlighted in yellow, you can MMB drag anywhere on the screen to move along that axis.

Thank you stwert. This is a very good hint and a good workaround :-)

Which way did you end up using, if you don't mind me asking.

Hi stwert,

The hint with maximizing the gizmo does not really help improving the precision to grab the arrows. The tweak mode is much better and I love it.

Thank you again.
