Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Trouble parenting a Locator to a Sine Deformer

Hello all, this is my first post here:

So I've got a cylinder that is being affected by a Sine Deformer and I wanted to parent a locator to the cylinder so that when the offset value of the Sine Deformer is changed (and the cylinder becomes wavy) the locator will move up accordingly.

If anyone can help me out on this I would much appreciate it as I am currently pulling my hair out trying to solve this.

Thanks!

I would try using a set driven key. Load the sine deformer as your driver and the locator as the driven. Key the lowest point of the locator with the lowest value on the deformer offset and then key the highest point of the locator with the highest value on the offset. I suspect that will give you the result you're looking for.

Thanks so much! That worked!!

I had to manually do a set key for each movement of the offset but it is definitely doing what I want it to.

Thanks again for the help!
