Extrude is just not working :(

Hi everyoneuser added image

I am very new to Maya, interested in modeling. I am following some tutorials to learn.

This has been happening to me quite often:

I am just beginning to make a building: https://grabilla.com/04915-2e05bf20-7...1f422422.html#

I want to extrude the top edges out. I select face, shift click the faces I want, then click extrude, and the faces just automatically deselect as soon as I choose to extrude them! I'm going crazy! user added image

Is this a bug or just something totally noob I am doing?

Thank you ahead of time for any help you can give me! user added image

Edit: I am using Maya 2014

sometimes it happens to me too, try deleting history, restart maya, or change viewport. your faces will get extruded, so prepare to clean all that up if you have tried extruding multiple times, there will be faces laying on top of eachother

Hi, i am new too, also this happened to meuser added image, i think you used the option from Edit mesh " extrude faces" instead of "extrude edges", or opposite, if not, like @Skalman said, deleting history might help you.

Just keep in mind what you have selected, edges or faces, in the " Edit Mesh" tab you have extrude for edges and faces, be sure you chose the right one.

The best way is to use the extrude icon in the Polygon toolbar, that icon works for both extrude faces and edges.

To delete history go to: Edit >> Delete by type >> History

Good luck

Also a cool trick to keep in mind, when you work with extrude sometimes you forget to extrude or undo steps to an extrude step that you have made, and that lead to errors and double edges.

To check your edges from time to time, select your object, right click on object and chose vertex face, in vertex face mode you will be able to see your model fragmented into faces that way you can search for edges floating around your model, if u see edges that are not connected to model faces, select floating edges and hit CTRL+DEL.
