1st V-Ray / Arch-viz int. render

Hey guys.

I switched from 3DS Max to Maya few years ago, and I'm mainly using it for architectural stuff. So far only rendered in Mental Ray, but this is my first time in V-Ray.
It's an exercise I sat up for myself, in doing photo-real rendering, so any hints / critic about how to make it more life like, would be much appreciated. (Any critic really is much appreciated user added image )

Cheers! user added image

Hi.

I'm interested in learning vray atm, for this same kind of work.
It looks like a nice start to me.

The beams at the top confused me a little because there's not a lot of depth information there, it made my brain struggle a bit to work out where they were, i.e against the wall, fg,mid ground etc.

Also, the shadow is very dark under the storage cabinet on the right there, and the blacks on the underside of the chair and footrest are very black hole like, ....perhaps a bit of upward bounce light?

But it looks like a good start to me, it's got that v ray arch viz vibe.

How are you learning vray? Any good tutorials you've liked? Or books etc?

Hey Ben.

Thanks for the comment! Much appreciated.
I see your point with the beams - they kinda look flat yeah. user added image

I started out with V-Ray 2.0, and there i found Renderschool.com to be super good for getting all the basic stuff together. (https://renderschool.com/products/tra...r-maya-basics/)
Digital Tutors also made one called: "Utilizing Render Elements in V-Ray for Maya", which I'm planning to look into soon - I might find some of the solutions to my depth problem there i think. user added image

cheers

No problem mikkel.

I'm not great at mental ray, but that's what I always use, but there's something about v ray renders that I always like.

Thanks for that link, I will check it out soon.

It may be as much of a composition issue as a render one re: those beams at the top..
