Numbers before object name.

Hi there,

I'm currently working on my first project in Maya. It's a (mayor) learingcurve but I'm havin' fun. For the project that I started I need to have numbers before the instance / object name. Maya doesn't allow me (yet?). Is there any way to overcome this issue? user added image

I don't believe so. That's one major restriction of Maya's naming system. You'll likely have to figure out a new naming convention that works.

you cant, generally the number has to be the suffix of the object....

EG: Roundthing_1 or Roundthing01 etc and so on. if you duplicate anything in maya the number is thrown on the end everytime. It makes sense to have it this way in my opinion anyway

You could try a naming system using this method: roundthing1PLY basically this is the object followed by the number and then the surface type

hope this gives you an idea

cheers

Then, unfortunately, you'll have to edit the file by hand once you export it.

Surely there must be renaming software/scripts out there for your operating system. That's probably the best bet.
