How to make my model move?

Sorry if this thread looks so easy for you. I just wonder how you animate a model. I made a model, no skeleton whatsoever, very plain model. I wonder how I can let one part move so that I can start animating my model?

Very new to maya, but determined to make a movie LOL. user added image

The first thing to do would be to build a rig, you can grab and move verts to get it to look like its moving but not only would that be super repetitive, it would also take a VERY long time to do that.

My advice is find a rigging tutorial or book and go from there. Also with a proper rig your model should deform properly which is something you would not get by moving individual verts. Good luck.

There are some real basic rigging tutorials out there that will give you a better understanding of the whole process. All you can do though is keep doing it until you get it. Good luck with the rigging, it can be a long tedious process in the beginning.

Laying out the rig is easy, it's painting weights that becomes tedious and can be quite difficult. Takes quite a bit of practice. Stick to it and don't give up, it's totally worth it once you get it right!
