Edge Loops

Dear All,

New to modelling and searched the web for this fundamental question concerning what I believe is termed edge loop. I was following a tutorial from another site (just discovered this one) and don't understand why my model is inserting an edge loop while their's is not? Image attached.

Thanks,

I am not really sure what you are asking here since your model is not showing any extra edge loops than the tutorial image. What i can tell you is that you have border edges turned on, hence the thick highlighted border edge to your model.
Not sure which version of Maya you are using but you can toggle on and off the border edge display under the Display menu set Display/Polygons/Border Edges
