Issue with Subdivisions

Hi All,

I have been using maya 2016 for around a month and have come across something very irritating. Hopefully its something simple and someone will be able to help.

1. Create a poly cylinder.
2. Scale the Cylinder in Y to whatever size
3. Open up to channel box and select the inputs for the poly Cylinder and change the height sub divs to add more spans.

The primitive seems to go all weird on me.

Hopefully someone can help

Cheers Mythandra

I've encountered this before when changing the inputs after moving vertices. When one moves/scales/rotates vertices, Maya keeps transform history on the individual vertices based on the vertex numbers. Adding subdivs changes the vertex numbers.

To see the effect more clearly, go into Settings->Preferences->Display->Polygons and tick the Vertices box next to "Show item numbers". The settings takes effect with the creation of the next object.

Hi thanks for the reply,

I haven't moved anything apart from scale in Y.

one other thing i have noticed is that if you use the centre gizmo to scale in all axis then the scale values in the channel box changes, if you just scale in the Y or (not all 3 axis) the scale values dont change and stay at 1.

Very strange behaviour and frustrating.

Cheers Myth

Did you select the vertices or did you select the object?
