Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

[Solved] Alignment question

Hi Guys,

First time poster here.

I am wondering if it is possible to duplicate a basic model and have it automatically aligned to another model on the Y axis (while offsetting on the x axis by a fixed amount).

The x-axis isn't really a problem, just the y axis. As the model I want to align to has a wavy surface.

I want to avoid doing this manually as I want to duplicate several thousand times.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance user added image

Thanks for the reply user added image

Here is an image of the concept that I would like to achieve.

user added image

I'd like to align the meshes to follow the curve.

Duplicating with transform is ok, but wondering how I can align these vertically to the curve.

Thanks again user added image

[edit]
I can manually span these to the curve no probs. But I will have several thousand to do in my proper scene. So, I am hoping there is a way to select all and somehow snap these automatically to the curve.

Try attaching one object to the curve as a motion path and then creating an animated snapshot. Check out the documentation for details

Awesome stwert - that looks like exactly what I am after.

Animate / Motion Paths / Attach to Motion Path
Animate / Create Animation Snapshot

Thanks so much for the help user added image
