Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Strange light artefacts rendering mesh

Hello, first time poster and new maya user here.
I have been working on a project for a while, helping my father.
What we want to do is add 3d shadows to a 2d flash movie, my father makes the flash movie, and I the shadows. The shadows are to be applied as a mask to the flash movie if all goes well.
It was all going smoothly untill i hit the render button, strange light artefacts appeared where there should be no light, and a mesh is rendering very poorly. I made the model i Rhino and exported it as a .OBj to maya for rendering, and i have been using the mentalray renderer. Here are some images that possibly makes my problem clearer.

https://imgur.com/a/3SBWJ : screenshot from camera with shadows off, and troublesome mesh selected.

https://imgur.com/a/DMb0M : screenshot with shadows on

https://imgur.com/a/9mssk : rendered image with light artefacts within red lines

https://imgur.com/a/zdYdD : screenshot from outside my model, with lightsource selected, and camera visible

Can anyone understand what is going on? Quick renders in Rhino showed none of theese problems.

Thank You!
