I think it has to do with animation and rendering which could create folds and unwanted creases when you have 5 sided poly's. Also 3 sided poly's can be bad but if you couldn't rebuild the area that has a 5 sided poly to be all 4 sided, then breaking a "5 sided" poly into 1 "4 sided" and 1 "3 sided" poly would be better than having that 1 "5 sided" poly. In my opinion it can be really hard figuring out how to split a 5 sided poly into 2 "4 sided" polys. Meaning sometimes it can be as simple as changing the direction of how the continuity of the edge loop flows along its path but then other times changing the direction of an edge loops continuity can make things worse then having a 3 sided poly.Originally posted by mc-fleury
